Good news! CSA time is slowly creeping towards us! We’re still really looking forward to feeding you this year. We’ve been spending a lot of time babying our little plants! I haven’t even counted the hundreds baby leeks yet (but I have been singing to them–they really love my re-take of ‘Baby Shark’). The bad news is that those baby leeks still aren’t in the ground. Nor are the tomatoes, or the peppers, or the myriad other delicious produce-poppin’ plants we’ve got started, other than the baby rhubarb, the garlic, and the potatoes. This weather (which, according to NASA, has been the wettest 12-month period in 124 years of record keeping) has been…well, wet. Add to that that we’re clearing out two acres of previously uncleared brushy madness and that we couldn’t even till because it’s soggy, and add to that that the last frost date for us was a mere two weeks ago, and…our plants are still cozy and potted and taking up every available surface in the house and on the porch.
The good news is that we’re not the guy down the road that put in $40,000 worth of seed before the last frost date, and is thinking that he’s not going to see a single one sprout. The bad news is that because we ended up waiting…and waiting…and saved all those baby leeks (doo doo doo doo doo doo) we have to push back our first CSA delivery date to June 21. I know that this seems suuuuper late, but good news you’ll be getting a bonus egg delivery on our original start date, plus we’re tacking on a delivery date in October, so you’re not down any veggies!
The good news is we’re so very pleased that you’ve decided to take this CSA journey with us. We truly feel this is the best possible way to connect with your food–and we love that we’re the crew you’re stepping out with. The bad news, of course…is that you’re stuck with my corny updates all summer and into the autumn, alongside a healthy helping of produce. *grin*
