Hawthorne in bloom, heralding spring

It’s two weeks on now, and tomorrow is our second CSA delivery! I feel like this week has been a week of Mondays, and we just can’t quite scramble enough to keep up. We’re slowly seeing green in the fields, and we’re getting excited! The sweet corn is coming up, the potatoes are starting to flower, and we’re hatching out our next generation of Easter Egger chicks (the only ‘breed’ of chickens on the farm that are not heritage, or endangered) this weekend! It’s been a cool, windy, wet June so far, so it’s hard to believe that Friday is already the Solstice, and summer will then officially be in full swing. I’ll be so happy when I don’t have to wear socks to bed anymore!

With our slower start to the growing season, it will be another smaller share this week, but we’re excited to see things start to take off over here. We’re really looking forward to later this year when we can seek a grant for a hoop house to jumpstart our growing season next year, and maybe give us a smoother start! I’ll be shooting off individual emails to Milwaukeeans in a few to let you know where to pick up your shares tomorrow evening, and the time they’ll be available. If you’re up here in our neck of the woods, it will be available to pick up at work as usual!

Looking forward to feeding you again this week 🙂

Love,

Us
